Great analysis @veramaltby. I loved this story – it appears to be so simple, but there is so much more going on. Can you think of any short stories written by Russian writers that might be good for the group? (in translation of course!)

What do you think of it?
It a very subtle story . Stories inside of a story. The plot is made up of the simple casual events. But when you come to the end of the story it leaves you with a sad feeling that real life is not so simple as a market is . It is spectacular tragic.

Did you find any new words or phrases?
to dash; to poke , to smooth down a dress

Can you summarise the story in 5 sentences?
1Someone came to the marketplace to take some pictures because a souk is supposed to be full of vivid colours and striking spicy aromas. 2 Instead if it he learned the the market is a book consists of different people’s sad life stories.3The dress seller who ran away from home; the scrap seller who is very proud of his honest father; the little onion seller who hides his hands. 4 Their stories are their pictures . 5 The only thing for narrator to do is to go to the park and take pictures of gosling . No more ideas in my head . sooooryyy
